HORSE COUNTRY RESIDENCE

Petaluma, California

The staircase was originally carpeted which gave the residence a distinctly suburban feel and did not support the Santa Fe inspired aesthetic with which we were imbuing throughout the space. Once we ascertained that there was indeed interest in creating the dramatic single rise staircase as a focal point, we were off and running with one of the owner's personal favorite ideas - the Spanish Revival style of contrasting the wood treads with tile risers. In this case we used five different patterns of tiles, each with completely unique colorways that we created after careful deliberation and a research trip to Santa Fe, New Mexico. (2012-2014)
